My birthday night away with a re-connection to the wonder that is Moss!

It was my birthday a couple of days ago, so what better way to celebrate than building and spending the night in a moss hut! I know what your going to say "why not keep with the traditions of drunken pub culture? Downing 10 pints, eating kebabs, and stumbling around trying to find a discreet (or not so discreet) location to have a piss." Well let me tell you... all this can all be achieved in the great outdoors without the need to spend a small fortune.

Drink - A fine bottle of Tomintoul 16yo (http://www.tomintoulwhisky.com/) The taste of Scotland, drank in the forests, mountains and glens that make up this great country.

Food - What better way to dine than over a wood fire.  The outdoor kebab! Everything is cooked on a stick! Or for the connoisseur, why not eat in style and cook up a pot of mussels in white wine sauce.

Pick a tree any tree. You won't find a much discreeter place to do your business than in the woods!

Make sure the fire is properly extinguished (plenty of water and also get your hands deep into the remains to make sure there is no heat) and scatter the ashes to help with the regeneration of the area.

Callater Stable Bothy

Callater Stable - Carn an t-Stagairt Mor - Carn a Choire Bhoidheach

Unfortunately snow drifts up to my armpits and short days meant I wasn't able to get all the way to Lochnagar as first planned but still had a great time nav training in (at times) near zero visibility, off path, in untouched white wilderness.  Bothy in great condition, only issue was after walking with 6kg of coal I was quite disappointed to find out in had no fireplace or stove! (should of done my research!) Great company and fine whisky made for a great night.

Multiple Exposure Nikon D800

Playing with Multiple Exposure Nikon D800 - All shot in camera no Photoshop or post production

So I was out for a wander in the Cairngorms and just felt I couldn't capture anything original from the landscape I was in. Sure this has probably been done loads before but hopefully something slightly different for the area.

All images taken on a short, well-trodden route, from the Linn of Dee - Derry Lodge
